Lawrence James Marshall, known lovingly as Larry, was born on May 9, 1934, and passed away on July 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, kindness, and devotion to his family and community.
Larry was a Christian man whose life reflected the quiet strength of a servant’s heart. He was the beloved husband of Mary and a devoted father to Daniel (Marie Bailey), Tina (Charles) Drake, Jodi (Douglas) Callcut, Kristi (Donald) McKiness, and his son Timothy, who preceded him in death. He was also a loving father to his daughter-in-law Judy Marshall. Larry cherished his grandchildren Sarah, Stephanie, Beth, Anne, Aaron, Shawn, Brandon, Preston, Sandy, Cody, Britney, and Brandon, and he was blessed to see his family grow to include 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His family was the center of his life, and he loved them with steady devotion, patience, and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Agnes, his mother-in-law Mary, his brother Clarence, and his sisters Ruth and Mary Lou. Though their absence was felt deeply, Larry carried the memory of his loved ones with him throughout his life, honoring them through the way he lived, worked, and cared for others.
Larry served honorably in the United States Army, an experience that reflected his sense of duty and commitment to something greater than himself. After his military service, he worked faithfully for General Motors at the Coldwater Plant, where he retired in 1996. He was known as a man who could fix nearly anything, and his interests included: flying, TV repair, woodworking, music, helping others, and repairing what was broken. These were expressions of who he was. He was loving, handy, and selfless, and those qualities were evident to all who knew him.
His faith was a guiding force throughout his life. Larry attended the Rising Christian Church in Lapeer and was a charter member of Peoples Baptist Church. He also took part in 40 mission trips to Mexico and south Texas, serving others with humility and compassion. His willingness to go where help was needed and to share the love of Christ made a lasting impact on many lives. He lived his faith not only in word, but in action, showing the heart of a true servant of God.
As the Scripture reminds us, “Well done, good and faithful servant” is a phrase from Matthew 25:23 that beautifully reflects the life Larry lived. He served his Lord, his family, his country, and his community with faithfulness and grace. His earthly journey is now complete, but the love he gave and the faith he lived will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Jansen Family Funeral Home – Columbiaville. Family and friends may visit Monday, July 27, 2026 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday noon till time of service. Larry will be laid to rest in Wood Lawn Cemetery, Columbiaville, Michigan.
