Filer (Robinson), Robert “Bob” – of Clio, age 84, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at Ascension Genesys Hospital of Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Cremation will follow. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 9AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society.
Bob was born February 22, 1939, in Flint, Michigan to Frank and Rhea Robinson. He was adopted by his maternal grandparents, Vern and Bessie Filer. At age 17 he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served with the 1st Marine Air Wing VMR253 and 4th Marine Air Wing VMF231. On August 10, 1963 he married the love of his life, Irene Krummel. They shared 59 amazing years together and in 1970, became the parents of a great son, Bobby. .
Bob worked for the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department as a Corrections Officer from 1983-1997. He was an avid member of the American Legion Post #64. He served as a 1st Vice Commander and Sergeant at Arms. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting the gun range and just being outdoors. He could be found reading a good book, studying history, or looking over his collectable items. More than anything he was a wonderful dad and led by example. Bob had an amazing character, good values and was an honest man. He will be dearly missed by many.
Surviving are: Son, Robert “Bobby” Filer; Sisters: Sandra Sweetser, and Karen Peters; Brother-In-Law, Joe Krummel; Sister-In-Laws: Gracy (Frank) Cramer and Abelia (Bill) Crump. Several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Filer, and parents: Frank Robinson, Rhea (Robinson) Olsen, Vern and Bessie Filer.
