OPILA, Paula Lou (Schmitz) – of Grand Blanc, MI, age 89, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021. A Private Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesee County Humane Society, in Paula’s memory.
Paula was born in Flint, MI on July 15, 1932, daughter of the late Edwin and Ethel (Fenton) Schmitz. She was a graduate of Flint Tech. Paula then earned a nursing degree from Mott Community College. She married Bernard Opila and he preceded her in death in 1985. Paula was employed as a registered nurse at Flint Osteopathic Hospital. She enjoyed trips to the casino and horse racing tracks.
Paula is survived by 2 children, Joan (Harry) Rich and Daniel Opila; daughter-in-law, Janet Opila; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Rich, Pete (Casey) Rich, Jessica Opila, Marley Opila and Joshua Opila; 5 great-grandchildren; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Ethel Schmitz; husband, Bernard; son, Tom.
