HERNER, Shirley Ann – of Davison, age 76, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Hurley Medical Center. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Richfield Church of the Nazarene, 7524 E. Mt. Morris Road, Otisville, MI 48463; Pastor Alan Duce officiating. Private Interment will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, Michigan 48423. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 10 AM, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Side Mission in Flint or Feed My Starving Children.
Shirley was born in Flint, Michigan, on January 10, 1950, daughter of the late Alex and Jenny Bishop. On September 19, 1970, she married the love of her life, Gary Herner, at Richfield Church of the Nazarene in Otisville. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and service to others. Shirley’s faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life. She was a longtime and faithful member of Richfield Church of the Nazarene, and in all that she did, she sought to reflect God’s love and kindness. Her faith was not simply something she believed; it was something she lived each day.
Shirley was the heart and pillar of her family. She was completely devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends, and she especially adored her grandchildren. Her generous and supportive nature touched countless lives. She believed strongly in giving back and taught her children by example the importance of helping others and serving their community. She was very active in the Davison community and a strong supporter of Davison Athletics. Shirley generously gave her time to organizations and causes close to her heart, including the East Side Mission and Feed My Starving Children. Shirley retired from Allied Trucking after more than 30 years of dedicated service. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and decorating her home for the holidays. She had a wonderful appreciation for life and made the most of every moment, always surrounded by the people and things she loved. She gave freely, loved deeply, and made everyone around her feel cared for. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, devotion to her family, and the many lives she touched through her kindness and service.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Gary; children: Stephanie Hunt and Jason Herner; grandchildren: Kathryn Riley, Allison Hunt, Cameron Hunt; great grandchildren: Isabella Herner, Jaxson and Aaliyah Riley, Sophia and Nolan Meredith; sister, Dolores Dodds; several nieces and nephews; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by brother, David Bishop.
