Backmeier, Nadora “Dori” Maxine of Flushing, age 87, died March 16, 2024, at Ascension Macomb-Oakland. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will take place at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
Nadora was born in Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Northouse) Dickey. She married Edward J. Backmeier on February 21, 1955. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2000. Dori resided in the Flushing area for 49 years. She was a beloved waitress for many years working at Country Squire, Speakeasy and other restaurants over the years.
After retiring from waitressing, she joined her husband’s construction business, until retiring in 2000. Dori enjoyed going to the casino with her friends, watching her grandchildren, and caring for all the Bingo ladies.
Dori had many nicknames, Doda, Honky Dori, Momma Do, “Ma”, but her most special name was Granno. Dori was a very loving mother and did everything she could for her children. She will be truly missed by many.
Dori is survived by her son, Bryon and wife Tina Backmeier, Susan and husband Joe Shaheen; grandchildren, Heather, Nick, Joel, Danielle, Joey, Megan, Jeff, Jessica, Tina, April, Quentin; great-grandchildren, Alex, Abigail, Jackson, Evelyn, Kennedi, Ryan, Emmett, Mavrick, Emmerick, JJ, and baby Bowen due in April; sisters-in-law, Elaine Bernston; Shirely Dickey; niece Melodie Brunk; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Backmeier; sons Michael J. Backmeier, Daniel J. Backmeier; nine brothers and one sister.
The family would like to thank the Woodhaven staff for their kindness and care for Dori over the past three years. A special thank you to Rhonda-thank you so much for everything you did daily. And to Lisa for the little extra things you did. Kathy and Elaine, thank you for your care and compassion.
