SMITHSON, Beverly J. (Morse) – of Birch Run, age 93, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Parish – 12157 Church St., in Birch Run. Rev. Fr. David Jenuwine, celebrant and Rev. Fr. Thomas McNamara and Rev. Fr. Bernard Owens, SJ, concelebrating. Burial to follow in Birch Run Twp. Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Tuesday from 4PM until 8PM, and at the church on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM. A prayer service will be held at 7PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ss. Francis and Clare Altar Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Beverly was born March 31, 1929, in Birch Run, Michigan, to the late Frank and Helen (Owens) Morse. She grew up in Birch Run and graduated from Birch Run High School in 1947. Bev married Orla Dale Smithson on March 11, 1968. He preceded her in death June 7, 2002. She retired from General Motors – Parts Division as the first female General Supervisor in 1987 with over 28 years of service. Bev was a faithful member of Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Parish in Birch Run, and a charter member of the Birch Run VFW. She also worked at and belonged to Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc for many years. Bev enjoyed golfing and playing cards – especially bridge. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are: Children: Jim (Diane) McNamara, Mike (Pam) McNamara, Helen Mitchell, Ed (JoAnne) McNamara, Chris (Diane) McNamara, Mary Ann Gust (Paul McFarland), Jeanette (David) Buthker, and Sharon (Dan) Finley; 23 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren: 2 great-great grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Sharon Morse; Former spouse, Ed McNamara; Many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and dear friends. Bev was also preceded in death by: Grandson, Michael Mitchell, Son-in-law, Max Mitchell; Siblings: Bernard (Jeanette) Morse; Vernon (Connie) Morse, Duane “Bert” Morse, and Tim Morse; Lifelong friend, Margaret Lafferty-Periard.
