Powell, Martin “Marty” – of Millington, age 67, passed away peacefully on after an 8 year battle with cancer on Saturday, October 7, 2023, after his final trip up north with his loving wife and nephew by his side. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington -4941 Center St, Millington, MI 48746. The family will receive visitors at church on Saturday from 12:30 until the time of service. A luncheon immediately following at the church hall. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington, and the Jordan Mai Foundation.
Marty was born April 20, 1956, in Flint, Michigan, to Martin and Barbara (Cameron) Powell Jr. He attended Millington High School, graduating with the class of 1974. Marty then went on to marry his best friend Teresa Melenbrink on October 18, 1996, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, she was his world. He worked for General Motors for 35 years as a Journeyman Carpenter, retiring in 2009. Marty was a faithful Christian who was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In his spare time, he taught karate for 30+ years at PKSA Karate as a 5th Degree Master Black Belt. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors and enjoying all nature could give. Marty loved going up north to Hillman, it was one of his favorite places to be. He enjoyed going on cruises, visiting Las Vegas, and listening to Grand Funk Railroad. More than anything he was a great husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Surviving are: Loving wife of 26 years, Teresa Powell; Mother, Barbara Powell; Brothers: Mitch (Terri) Powell, Dennis (Teresa) Powell, Don Powell; Children: Danielle (Dave) Defauw, and Wayne (Shana) Powell; Grandchildren: Carsyn, Kamryn, DeLainey, Dayana, and Drew; Many brother in laws and sister in laws; Many special Aunts and Uncles; Several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews and cousins'; Special karate friends, as well as all his close friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Martin Powell; Aunt Cindy Thompson, along with many other Aunts and Uncles; Good friends: Steve Jones, and Jack Bunton.
