Born March 1, 2001, in Grand Blanc, MI, Sydney lived a life filled with laughter, family, and love for her beloved dog Lola. An up-and-coming hairdresser, Sydney spent her days styling hair and seeking out adventure.
Known for her bright smile and big laugh, Sydney was a graduate of Grand Blanc High School and the Douglas J Institute in East Lansing, Michigan.
She passed her cosmetology boards in 2022, though her love for hairstyling began long before her formal training. One of her first—and most loyal—clients was her late Grandpa Welsh, who happily received many of her signature creations, including the “SpongeBob” and the “Curly Shirley.”
Sydney brought joy and humor wherever she went.
She was always eager to share memorable stories from the salon—whether it was the time she trampled on a client while escaping a bat or convincing men with buzz cuts that a blowout could change their lives. Sydney also had a talent for finding exceptional deals. One of her proudest bargains was stocking an entire deep freezer with her favorite ice cream treats for less than two dollars. Her dad might say his favorite of Sydney’s bargains was the one that made him the hero of the boys’ ice fishing weekend—showing up with 96 ballpark franks that Sydney had managed to buy for just twelve cents.
Sydney had a newfound love of Pilates. She came across a Pilates studio near her salon and decided to give it a try. Before long she developed a passion for Pilates that led to aspirations for one day owning her own studio.
Sydney was always in search of an adventure, and she brought her siblings along for every spontaneous moment she could. Whether taking her brother and sister to the Brendon’s lake, heading out for late night Slurpee runs, or wrangling the family dogs for a Christmas photo at Bass Pro Shops, she created memories that were as joyful as they were unforgettable. Her love for fun, exploration, and togetherness will remain a cherished part of her legacy.
She will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Dawn and Wally; her sister and best friend, Hailey; her brother, Leyton; her grandma, Mary Ann Welsh; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her Grandma Austin and Grandpa Welsh.
The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Genesee County Animal Control or Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
