HARDIN, Kenneth J.- Of Grand Blanc, age 81, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022 at his home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, January 5th, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Father Roy Horning officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00pm on Thursday until the time of the service.
Ken was born in Flint, Michigan on June 20, 1941 the son of the late Richard and Ethel (Nelson) Hardin. He married Josephine “JoJo” Ragnone on June 27, 1964 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Ken attended Flint Central High School where he was celebrated as an outstanding athlete. He studied and played football and baseball at Michigan State University and Ferris State University. Ken founded and operated Ken Hardin Heating and Cooling in Flint, Michigan for 58 years. Ken was always interested in politics and served his community for over 30 years. He was appointed as Trustee for Flint Township after serving numerous other positions. Ken was elected to the Eighth District County Board of Commissioners in 1992 and served as the County Board Chair for the Genesee County Board of Commissioners in 1997. Ken then served as Drain Commissioner of Genesee County from 1997 to 2000. In addition, Ken was an entrepreneur. He holds patents for the TAKAN, an innovative drain alarm and other inventions.
Ken was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was known for his kindness and acts of service in Genesee County and beyond. Ken will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife, JoJo Hardin;
sons, Kenneth (Kimberly) Hardin II and Tony Hardin;
grandchildren, Alex, Kenny, Andreana and Nicolas;
sister, Bonnie Ragnone;
brother-in-law, Sam Ragnone;
several nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ethel Hardin and 8 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Louis School for Boys, 16195 W. Old US Hwy 12, Chelsea, MI 48118
