STEEL, Gerald E. “Jerry” – of Clio, age 84, died on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Maple Woods Manor in Clio. Honoring his wishes, cremation will be taking place. A memorial service will be held 1PM Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11AM until the time of service at 1PM. Inurnment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly with full military honors at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Swartz Creek United Methodist Church.
Jerry was born September 24, 1937, in Swartz Creek, Michigan to the late Eugene and Norma (Ruby) Steel. He graduated from Swartz Creek High School in 1955 and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. Jerry married Dorothy Payer on August 28, 1965, at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, and they enjoyed 57 years together. Mr. Steel is a U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran. He retired from General Motors – Flint Truck and Bus as a forklift operator in 2007 with 45 years seniority and was a member of the UAW Local #598. Jerry was a 70-year member of Swartz Creek United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and sang in the Flint Male Chorus for many years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed listening to music. Jerry loved to travel and visited all 50 states, many countries, and national parks. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are: Loving wife, Dorothy Steel; Daughter, Stephanie (Al) Sebert; Granddaughters: Alexis and Rachel Sebert; Sister in law, Judy (Richard) Androsky; Brother in law, Stephen (Theresa) Payer; Several step in laws; Best friends: Don Priestap, and Jim Packer; Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members and dear friends. Jerry was also preceded in death by: Sisters: Shirley Roseland, and Audrey Schulz; Brothers: Jack, James, Ronald, Richard and Thomas Steel; Father and mother in law, Steve and Betty Payer.
