Matsko, James George of Flushing, age 74, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate. Cremation will follow the funeral Mass. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Catholic Church or Holiday Park Campground in memory of Jim.
Jim was born in Flint, Michigan on November 5, 1939, the son of Michael and Anne (Marzonie) Matsko. He graduated from St. Michael’s in 1958 and served in the Army Reserves for six years, where he played on their baseball team. He was an avid sports fan. Jim married Beverly Abbott on April 18, 1964, in Flint. This coming year would have marked their 50th wedding anniversary. Jim worked at Fisher Body Grand Blanc for 37 ½ years, becoming a Skilled Tradesman in the Jig and Fixture Department.
Jim was extremely active spending summers at Holiday Park in Traverse City, Michigan, with his wife, Bev, all of his children, grandchildren, and wonderful friends. His greatest love was spending time working in the park and enjoying campfires every evening.
James is survived by his loving wife, Beverly. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Mike Matsko and wife Marcia Calleja Matsko, Dawn Matsko Gross and husband Dave, Kristi Matsko Gyger and husband Dave. He was a wonderful grandfather to Alex, Olivia and Kyle Gross. He is also survived by his brothers, Bob Matsko and Jack and wife Jan Matsko, all of Flushing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Phyllis Matsko.
