Van Norwick, Lawrence Harold "Larry" -- Age 77, of Swartz Creek, died May 16, 2022. Services will be held 12 PM Wednesday, June 1 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz Creek. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Tuesday, May 31 with O.E.S. and Masonic services beginning at 7 PM, and visitation 11 AM until the time of the service Wednesday, June 1. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Genesee County Literacy Council.
Larry was born June 12, 1944 in Flint the son of Austin Scott Van Norwick and Alice Elizabeth (Cross) Van Norwick. He earned his Bachelor Degree from U of M, and continued his education throughout his lifetime. He married Vivian Johnson on August 20, 1966 in Swartz Creek. Larry was a teacher for Swartz Creek Schools retiring in 2004, with 38 years of service. He was a member of the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church.
Larry started his Masonic involvement by serving as Charter Master Counselor of Swartz Chapter of DeMolay in 1962. He joined Swartz Creek Lodge #458 F & A.M. in 1967, and served as a Dad Advisor for the DeMolay. He joined the Order of Eastern Star in 1968 and is a member of Linden Chapter
#175 where he served as Worthy Patron 4 times as well as holding many other offices. He served as Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of Eastern Star of Michigan from 2014-2015. He was a life member of both his lodge and chapter.
Larry was an avid reader. Larry believed if a book was worth reading it was worth owning, and had his own personal library. He liked to do jigsaw puzzles and play word games. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and attending and participating in theater.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Vivian; sons, Kenneth (Jennifer) Van Norwick of Bloomfield Hills, Colin Van Norwick of Oregon; grandchildren, Grace, Kate, Faith and Noah; two brothers, James Van Norwick, and David (Dianne) Van Norwick; many nieces and nephews.
