McGillis, Michael (Mike)- of Clio, age 74, passed away June 8, 2022, with his family by his side.
Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 11AM until the time of service. Per the family’s request, guests are encouraged to wear a mask.
Mike was born December 7, 1947, in Flint, Michigan to the late Eugene and Elaine (Belanger) McGillis. He graduated from St. Mary’s with the class of 1966. Mike married Darlene Brelinski on March 22, 2000. Mike was a wartime veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He did not speak often about his time as a soldier but received accolades for his courage and bravery, including the Purple Heart. Mike spent his career at General Motors as a supervisor from 1966 until his retirement in 2006.
Mike knew no stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone and anywhere. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working in his yard, and visiting with his friends at their local “hang- outs.” Mike was a dog-lover and considered all of the pups in his life as family. He was a huge family man and would do anything to help them. He loved spending time with his family no matter if the occasion was big or small. Mike’s greatest joy was being a grandpa. He doted on his granddaughters (his sweethearts) without end and loved being their “Campa.” Despite the distance, Mike made it a point to regularly travel to Chicago to spend quality time with his grandsons, Max and Levi.
Above all he was an amazing husband, father and grandfather, and friend who will be missed by so many.
Surviving are Wife of 22 years, Darlene Brelinski; Daughters: Michele (Jeff Warner) Brelinski, Tiffany (Eric) Brelinski-Long, and Kristina (Ed) Shulman; grandchildren: Ayla, Harper, Max and Levi; grand pups: Jordan and Rocco; and his brothers, Dan and Tom and sisters Maureen and Cathy. Mike is preceded in passing by his parents Eugene and Elaine McGillis and his dogs Frisco and Tucker.
Mike supported the Indy Fund at Clio Animal hospital, which helps families with pet care expenses. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in his name. |
