On Friday, September 30th, 2022, cherished wife, mother and Mamaw, Norma “Faye” Atwell, passed away at the age of 79. Faye, as she was known to most, was born at home in Salem, Kentucky on November 5,1942. Her father was a pastor who traveled across the south and midwest with his family to lead numerous churches from Kentucky (Salem and Crayne), Illinois (Greenville), and Michigan (Lincoln Park and Warren). Faye graduated from high school at the age of 16 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Saginaw Valley State College. She married her love, Warren “Pete” Atwell on July 10, 1981. Together, they moved from Birch Run to Flushing, Michigan where they built their home and their business at Camelot Farms, widely renowned for their champion Clydesdale horses. Faye and Pete originally met at the Royal Winter Fair in 1968, where they returned thirty years later to win in Toronto, Canada, with their Grand Champion Clydesdale, “PTS Zippity Do Dah”, in 1998. While they were growing their business at Camelot Farms, Faye also worked for Case Construction. Faye was always incredibly devoted to her family and was happiest when all of her grandchildren and children, her “chickadees", were accounted for.
Norma Faye is survived by her husband, Warren “Pete” Atwell, children, Phaedra (Quin) Bartlett and Aaron (Amy) Winslow, and bonus children Christopher (Tina) Atwell. She is also survived by her grandchildren Madison Bartlett (Nick Morris), Makenzie (Bryan) Mendoza, Halle Bartlet, Dillon Winslow, Lily Winslow, Silas Winslow, Ivy Winslow, and great grandchild Henri Warren Morris. Further, she is survived by her brothers, William Eddie Jones and Thomas Steven Jones, nieces and nephews Debbie (Gary) Dudek, Jason Jones, Kristi (Drew) Tischer, brothers in law, Leroy (Stelle) Atwell and Jerry (Tracy) Atwell, many great nieces and nephews, and lifelong best friend, Josh. She is preceded in death by her father, Rev. James Jones, mother, Janee Elizabeth Jones, sisters in law, Linda Jones, Bonnie Jones and Sandy Stroop, nephew, Matthew Jones, bonus grandchild, Hunter Atwell, mother and fath in law, Rhea & Raymond Atwell, and brother, James “Don” Jones.
Faye’s family is establishing a memorial scholarship fund with the Clydesdale Education Foundation in her name. Checks or cash donations toward the scholarship fund may be donated to Camelot Farms in her memory. More information on this to come.
