THOMAS - David Robert, age 72 of Swartz Creek, passed away after an extended illness on February 1, 2024. Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest, with military honors, at a private ceremony at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of David to the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org).
David was born on May 15, 1951 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late James Robert and Ethel Josephine (Lumley) Thomas. He served our country with the United States Army and married Mary Hawkins on June 1, 1974 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Pontiac, Michigan. David was a proud veteran and frequently volunteered with the D.A.V. to assist other veterans by transporting them to the various appointments. He was fascinated by airplanes and flight tracking, he was a gun enthusiast and he enjoyed rock 'n roll music.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years; Mary. Daughter, Katrina (Don) Spry of Grand Haven. Son, Ryan (Corrin Simon) Thomas of Midland, Grandchildren, Forrest James; Sullivan Grace; Cassidy Ryan; Hadley Lauren; and Molly Rose. Mother-in-law, Norma Cassidy and daughter-in-law, Caitlin Thomas. David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Travis James; and father-in-law, Richard Cassidy.
