McMunigal, Theresa Jamie, 39 years old. Born March 20,1982. Died November 2, 2021. Theresa will always be remembered for her strength and courage during difficult times. We are saddened beyond measure that after a courageous and exhausting battle with depression, the pain became unbearable, and she took her life. Theresa was born to Joan McMunigal in Flint, Michigan on March 20, 1982. Timothy was unaware of her birth until 14 years later when he was notified to present himself for paternity testing. When he arrived for the test and saw Theresa for the first time he exclaimed "I don't need a test. That's my daughter!" She was introduced to the Fullers on Christmas day 1996, when she was very happily welcomed into the family.
Theresa's undergraduate education included study in Ireland, and she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Language Arts Education from Aquinas College. She also received a Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance Services from Grand Valley State University. She was a teacher in the Houghton Lake Community Schools District's Alternative Education department for 10 years, and in the Traverse City Public Schools District for 1 year. Her teaching philosophy - nurturing the mind and the soul - reflected her values. Theresa spoke Spanish, and in addition to her studies in Ireland, she travelled to Mexico and France. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, being out in nature, practicing yoga, running, the Detroit Institute of Arts, ethnic food, reading and cooking. She was fun and funny, and she enjoyed the humor of Chelsey Handler, Amy Sedaris, David Sedaris and Steve Martin. When relating humorous stories of her travels in Ireland, her affected Irish accent was phenomenal.
Theresa was a true and loyal friend, a trusted confidant, genuine, kind, generous and compassionate. When speaking with her, one knew that she was listening. A simply stellar human being who was always
there for us. We will miss her more than we can say.
Theresa is survived by her loving father, Timothy Fuller (partner Brenda); brother Timothy Fuller II (partner Amanda); Aunts Margaret (Mark) Adolph-Dalton, Mary (Gregg) Staley, and Anne Leite; Uncles Dennis (Donna) Fuller, Daniel Fuller (partner Leah), and Shawn McMunigal; Cousins Robert (Patricia) Trenaman, Mariel (Brian) Scharch, Mark (Nicole) Fuller, Megan Fuller, and Liam Fuller; Fantastic Friends Kendra Hughes, Kirsten Bakken, Joel Piper, Emily Brezinski, Keiko Ostlund and Rod Arzadon; and Faithful cats Penelope and Izzy.
Theresa was preceded in death by her Mother Joan McMunigal, Grandparents Eugene McMunigal, Frances McMunigal, William Fuller and Margaret Fuller; and Aunt Kathleen Fuller-Clark.
The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
A memorial visitation for Theresa will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Reigle Funeral Home/Sunset Chapel, 5501 W. Pierson Road, Flushing, MI, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
