LAWRENCE, Gerald D. “Jerry” - Of Flushing, age 85, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County.
Jerry knows Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, who saved him from sin and death. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” Jerry wants you to know his Jesus. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
Funeral service will be 11am Monday, April 30, 2018 at Trinity Baptist Church, 4222 Elms Road, Flushing, with visitation at 10 am until time of the service. Pastors Ronald Scott and Seth Ferguson officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
Visitation 1-8 pm Sunday at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church or Hospice House of Shiawassee County.
Jerry was born in Dudley, Missouri, September 29, 1932, the son of Andrew and Edna Lawrence. He served in the Army during the Korean War. On September 28, 1957, he married his wife of 60 years, Barbara Richter, in Flint. He worked for General Motors for 36.6 years as a die maker, retiring in 1988. At age 65, he bought Coyner’s Blueberry farm and worked it until last August when a broken hip kept him from continuing. He enjoyed playing senior softball, helping on building projects, teaching his grandchildren to work, and serving the Lord in many practical ways.
Surviving are wife, Barbara; daughters, Janice (Richard) Derby, Sue Lawrence, “adopted” daughter Gale (Aaron) Moe; grandchildren and families, David (Abbey), Della, Norah Derby; John (Kristin), Hope, Grace, Paul, Noah, Jacob, Timothy Derby; Caleb Derby; Joel (Angel), Faron Derby; Joy (Beau), Isaiah Bennett; Esther (Aaron), Adam, Jewel Shell; Rebekah Derby; Seth (Kailey) Derby; Benjamin, Bethany, Ruth, Lydia, Hannah Derby and more great-grandchildren to come; sister, Karen Kasson; sisters-in-law, Vivian Cardinal-Smith, Nancy Lawrence, Madaline (Jackie) Harvey; special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Earl.
