Phyllis June Fisher of Flint, MI, 94 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Affectionately known by many as “Phyl”.
Phyllis was born on December 1, 1931, in Flint, MI, the daughter of Marshall and Myrtle Bishop. She was active in her church youth group as a teen, was taught a strong work ethic, and graduated from Flint Central High School in 1949. She married Joseph Gervasi at age 19 and over the next several years gave birth to four children: Laurie, Jody, Stephen, and Leslie. After the marriage ended, she took a job at AC Spark Plug where she worked for 17 years. During that time, she married Kenneth Fisher who had four children of his own: Fred, Tammy, Michael, and Clarissa. Each loved the other’s kids as their own.
Those eight children blessed Phyllis with 77 grandchildren, including great-, great-great-, and great-great-great-grandchildren. Together, the whole family could easily fill two large school buses, yet Phyllis had room in her heart for every one of them.
She never met a stranger and opened her heart equally to everyone. She was a generous “hugger”; some would say it was a “spiritual gift”! She loved her kids and grandkids and was always bragging about them. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing hymns, and to Phyllis, every day was a good day to do some discount-shopping! Another “spiritual gift”. Ha! Ha! But more than anything she loved talking to people about the Lord. She would share the gospel with anyone who was willing to listen and at times even with those who wouldn’t. She would often say that the reason the Lord kept her around for so long was because He had more people for her to “witness to”.
Through the ups and downs of life, the greatest gift she gave her children was her faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. She and Ken were founding members of Calvary Baptist church where they both taught Sunday School and served for many years.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving and loyal husband Kenneth Fisher on October 4, 2022, her two stepsons Fred and Michael Fisher, her two older brothers Bud and Gerald Bishop, as well as her sister Nadine Bruce. She is survived by her children Laurie (Larry, deceased) Goodrich, Jody (Jim) Kietzman, Stephen (Patti) Gervasi, Leslie Gervasi, Tammy (Bob) Johnson, and Clarissa Fisher as well as her sisters Diane Reynolds and Karen Connelly.
She will be greatly missed but we are all very happy that she is in paradise at last!
A life celebration will be held on October 3, 2026, at Landmark Baptist Church in Clio, MI. |
