WELSH – Matthew S. - “Matt”, age 60, passed away peacefully Friday, April 2nd, 2021. Loving father and lifelong businessman, Matt was happiest tinkering in his shop and spending time with his family or on his beloved boat. Affectionately known to his friends as “Captain Matt” he is said to have always been a friend first and a boss second.
Born June 13th, 1960 in Flint, MI, son of the late Gerald Welsh and Shirley Welsh (Looney), Matt spent his early years traveling and experiencing life in California. However Matt’s heart was here in beautiful Michigan where he returned, settled and started a family. He was married to beloved wife, Kristina (Eagleson) Welsh, February 3rd, 2007. Together, they started a plumbing, heating and cooling business and built a life they loved together.
Matt will be remembered most for his infectious laugh and humor. He loved to cook, fish, build fireworks and tinker. His loss will leave a hole in the lives of his family. Surviving are wife, Kristie (Eagleson) Welsh; son, Cody (Kristine) Welsh; grandchildren, Jackson and Addison Welsh; beloved Aunts Beverly McConnell, Carolyn Garrison and Sonya (David) Bradley, sister Tracy (Welsh) Munson and many more loving friends and family. The family has found comfort in Matt’s last gift to the world by being an organ donor and changing the lives of others forever.
At this time the family is not planning on having a public funeral. A celebration of Matt’s life will be planned at a later time and additional details will be shared at a later date. Instead of flowers, the family asks that if you feel compelled, they will be accepting donations that will be used to acquire a couple of memorial plaques, one for his business and one for Matt and Kristie’s greenhouse, as well as some specialty plants that Kristie can plant in the greenhouse and tend to in remembrance of Matt.
