WARD, HOWARD “Vance”– Of Grand Blanc, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at his residence.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, April 17, 2023 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Father Bob McGraw and Father Tony Smela concelebrating.
Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm- 8:00pm on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, with a Rosary prayed at 7:00pm.
Mr. Ward will also be at the church from 10:00am on Monday until the time of the Mass.
Vance was born in Flint, Michigan on November 26, 1930 the son of the late Howard and Myrtle (Drinkwine) Ward. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper in the 111th Airborne during the Korean War. He retired from General Motors and was a member of UAW Local 659. Vance was a faithful parishioner of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for over 40 years. He was a coach and loved athletics. Vance was an avid hunter, golfer and bowler most of his adult life.
Surviving are children, Laurie and husband Russ Bock,
Larry and wife Mimi Ward,
Mary Jo Ward and fiance' Terry LaPorte and
Terry Ward;
grandchildren, Allison, Tony, Ashley, Brandon and Brittney;
great-grandchildren, Rylee, George, Zane, Yugiro, Fiona, Chloe, Alias, Jaxon and Marley;
sisters, Marybelle Barnum, Betty Gagnon and Karen Warren;
brother, Clair (Darlene) Ward;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Barbara Ward and Mary Ward; and daughters, Julie Ann Ward and Vanessa Kay Park.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Flint Powers Catholic High School.
