The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel on Thursday, November 4th from 2:00 to 8:00pm with a Rosary prayed at 7:00pm followed by a time of sharing.

Patrick was born on Thursday, January 13th, 1938 in Saginaw, Michigan to Charles and Monica (Mahony) Devota. The second of four children, he tipped the scales at just over 12 pounds. When Patrick was a child his family moved to a farm just north of Chesaning. The rural setting provided fertile soil and fresh air to raise crops and a growing family. His experiences as a young man were often the subject of his many stories that he loved to share with his children and grandchildren.

Patrick married the love of his life, Eileen Albert, at St. Michael’s Church of Maple Grove on April 30th, 1960. The couple made their home on the Albert Farm next to Eileen’s parents. Over the years they filled that home with four children, several dogs, cats, a pony, and lots of love. Pat was proud to be present at the birth of each child and even admitted to breaking several traffic laws to arrive in time.

Pat was trained in welder repair at Mott College in Flint and went on to work at Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing in the hole. After 38 years of service, he “finally” retired in 1997. In retirement, he continued his work as a eucharistic minister for the church and was a team leader for the Knights of Columbus fish fry. Pat found joy in helping others and cherished time spent with his friends.

Pat could fix practically anything and he took great joy in teaching his children and grandchildren the skills of life. Whether it involved car repair, roofing, framing, logging, or excavating, he was on it. He could spot a tree that needed to come down a quarter mile away; his burn pile was legendary.

The only thing larger than his fires was the garden where he was a master in the art of growing corn and tomatoes. He took great pride in feeding his family and friends with the fruits of his labor. Pat and Eileen canned over 100 quarts of tomato juice each year which he enjoyed with Mueller’s elbow macaroni, one enormous bowl, and extra spoons for the grandkids. He was also famous for his Knedlíky, apple strudel, and caramel corn.

When it was time to relax, he headed for Ludington. The cottage on Indian Pete Bayou has played host to his many fishing adventures since 1988. He enjoyed tooling around Hamlin Lake in the boat and took joy in watching his grandchildren fish from the sea wall. Up north there was always a project in progress and one on “the list”.

Patrick is survived by his wife Eileen; children, Patrick (Angie) Devota, Jacqueline (Frank) Burgess, and Andrew (Jane) Devota; son-in-law Harvey Jamick; grandchildren Iylish Devota, Joseph (Chaise) Jamick, Christopher Jamick, Allan Jamick, Justine (Kent) Burgess, Amanda ( Jesse) Lorencz, Clara Devota, Arthur Devota, and great-grandson Ira Lorencz.

Welcoming him to heaven are his parents, siblings Joe Devota, Larry and Betty Devota, and in-laws Arthur and Katherine Albert, brother-in-law Arthur Ruddy, grandson Frank Burgess Jr., and daughter Julie Jamick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the wishes of the family.
