Irene Joyce Henson, of Flushing, Michigan, age 79, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at her home. Funeral service will be 12 noon Friday, September 2, 2022 at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Aaron Whitman will officiate. Burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home from 3-8 p.m. and 11 a.m. Friday until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Mel Trotter Ministries.
Irene was born in Flint, Michigan on January 2, 1943 to John and Gladys (Jones) Rogan. She was a Class of 1961 Flushing High School Graduate. She married Carl Henson on October 24, 1964 and they were together until he preceded her in death in 2002. Irene was known for her excellent cooking and baking. She enjoyed her flowers and tending to her half acre garden in her earlier years with the help of her children. She was a long-time member of Riverdale Baptist Church, being a deaconess for over 20 years and taking care of many families and children through that church during her time there. Later, she was also a devoted member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Swartz Creek. Irene also liked to participate with Knit and Sit at Woodhaven Community.
Irene is survived by her children, Doreen Henson-Sturgis, Jeffrey (Joyce) Henson, Denise (Jim) Briggs, Jason Henson, Marlene Tease, and Christopher Walker; grandchildren, Linda (Kory) Chesser, Whitnie Briggs, Amber (Zachary) Wenzlick, Courtney (Kaleigh) Goins, Sharice Henson, Kayla Ehmke, and Nicole Henson; great-grandchildren, Sa’riyah, Evan, Austin, Isabella, and Julia; siblings, Sally Kitchin, Leona Rogan, LaVerne Schneider, Martin (Diana) Schneider, and Kathleen Gearhardt; brother-in-law, De (Cheri) Henson; and cousins, Jean and Roland Szukhent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Henson; parents, John Rogan and Gladys Schneider; step-father, Johnny Schneider; sisters, Patricia Ann and Cynthia June; and brother, Kenny Schneider. |
