Susan was born August 19, 1924, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late John and Alma (Thomson) King. She graduated from Central High School with the class of 1942, and later pursued writing courses at Saginaw Valley State University, enabling her to write countless engaging stories and letters. On June 25, 1949, Susan married the love of her life and true soulmate, Verl Newman. Together they embarked on an extraordinary journey that spanned an incredible 76 years. Their bond was unbreakable and paved the way for a lifetime of cherished memories and immeasurable love. Susan had a dedicated work ethic and spent a significant portion of her career in clerical roles. She worked for Buick Headquarters for 14 years, followed by 11 years at Service Bureau before retiring from GMI in 1998 after 15 years of service. Beyond her professional endeavors, Susan was deeply rooted in the community and a faithful member of SS. Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio. Her passion extended to various clubs, including the Antique Car Club, the Model "A" Restorers Club, the Veterans Motor Car Club, the Motor Car Club of America, and the Brass and Gas Car Club. Volunteering was a cornerstone of Susan's life. She dedicated her time to the Clio Amphitheater and the Clio Cast and Crew, where she contributed her talents and shared her love for the arts. Susan found immense joy in traveling alongside her beloved Verl. Their cherished cottage nestled on the shores of Lake Huron, served as a haven of peace and serenity where countless memories were made and hours were spent strolling along the beach. In her spare time, Susan enjoyed the art of knitting, sewing, and crocheting. She meticulously knitted exquisite sweaters, some even adorned with classic cars weaved in that displayed her extraordinary talent, and crafted countless afghans, each one serving as a warm embrace for those she loved that will forever be a treasured keepsake. Susan also crafted beautiful handmade dresses for her daughters over the years, ensuring they always felt loved and cherished. Susan's talents extended to the kitchen, where she delighted in her culinary abilities that were admired by all who tasted her homemade creations. From scratch-made pies made with handpicked berries, peanut butter pie that was a family favorite, and caterpillar cakes that dazzled her grandchildren, she poured love into everything she made. Her decorated Christmas cookies were no less than edible works of art. Susan's generous spirit and compassionate nature shone brightly in her interactions with others. Never one to indulge in gossip, she demonstrated a rare ability to see the good in every person she encountered. She never wanted to draw attention to herself, yet her grace and class were unmatched, along with her amazing sense of humor that left an enduring impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Above all, she treasured her family, finding joy in every moment spent together. She leaves behind a legacy of goodness that we should all strive to emulate.
