KERRY, Matthew Bryon – It is with deep sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Matthew Bryon Kerry, beloved son, brother, uncle, and father on April 20,2023, from chronic illnesses. He was 62 years old.

Born in Flint, MI Matthew was the son of Floyd and Doris (Luft) Kerry. He attended Flint City schools and graduated from Flint Southwestern High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy, traveling the world collecting memories and lifetime friends. He married and welcomed a son, Bryon Scott, who was the light of his life, bringing him immense joy and pride.

Until his illnesses Matthew was always “on the move” and ambitious. He started his relationship with food services at 14 years old. He was employed by several restaurants including Capital and Colonial Coney Islands, three local Kroger grocery stores, and he thoroughly enjoyed his time selling produce and local goods at the Flint Farmers Market with his friend Pat. He always dreamed of having his own bakery named “Cooky’s Kitchen” and even used that moniker for his answering machine.

He was an avid reader, especially American Indian and Mountain men history and ghost stories, and a walking encyclopedia of a variety of trivia, including music, geography and American history. He was a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him for his sense of humor, quick wit, loyalty and his “This day in history” updates.

Matthew is survived by his brother Michael and wife Sandra; sister, Karyl and husband Dr. James Young; nieces, Jillian and Amy; nephews, Michael, Aaryn and wife Mary; 7 great nieces; 2 great nephews; 2 great great nieces and a great great nephew. Also his Aunt Margaret and Uncle George, step daughter Kristian Kozlowski and family, numerous cousins and countless friends.

A celebration of life service will be Monday May 1, 2023 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W Hill Rd, Grand Blanc, MI at 11:30am. Internment will follow at Great Lakes Cemetery in Holly, MI with military honors. Visitation will be held Sunday April 30, 2023 from 4-8pm and Monday from 10:30-11:30am

Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Matthew can be sent to American Indian College Fund, the Association of
American Indian Affairs, the American Diabetic Association or the charity of their choice.

From the Lakota language he would wish for all to find their “Woohitike”__ The inner bravery that is found in every human spirit. May he rest in peace and his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
