GALE, Dorothy A. - Of Flint, age 83, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at her residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1pm Wednesday, August 13, 2014
at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,
Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Cremation will take place following the Mass
Those desiring may make contributions to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Visitation 12-3pm and 5-8pm Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Dorothy will be at the church from 12noon Wednesday until the time of the Mass.
Dorothy was born in Saginaw, MI on February 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Walter and Ilsa (Gelhar) Strudgeon, and was a resident of Flint most of her life. On September 10, 1955, she married Richard E. Gale in Flint and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2011. She graduated as a Flint Central Indian in 1949. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was previously a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and sang in the choir. Dorothy was also a RCIA Sponsor for people wanting to become a member of the church. She looked forward to spending time with her family, gardening, reading, and was passionate about sewing and cooking for her family. Dorothy was a Supervisor at Michigan Bell Telephone for 7 years before leaving to raise her family. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother when her two sons were young. Dorothy’s strength, courage, grace and dignity were unmatched and her memory will live on forever.
Surviving are her children, Geoffrey (Dawn) Gale, Donald (Deborah) Gale, Alane (Gary) Long, Carrie (Mark) Frutchey, Rebecca (Joshua) Gonzalez; grandchildren, Holly (Corp. Christopher) Speirs, Spc. Sean Gale, Gabrielle Gale, Daniel Moore, Alexandra Long and Tiffany Frutchey; and one great-granddaughter on the way; brother, Walter C. (Ann) Strudgeon; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Norma Strudgeon and sister-in-law, Suzanne Good. Special thanks to the staff at MediLodge-Montrose.
