WELCH, Virginia Ruth (Sparks) – of Birch Run, age 94, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022, at her residence. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Friday, September 9, 2022, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Robert Taylor officiating. Internment will immediately follow in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 AM until the time of the service on Friday, September 9, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in Virginia’s memory.
Virginia was born in Detroit, MI on September 5, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph and Christine (Wagnitz) Sparks. She married James Welch on June 7, 1947. He preceded her in death in 2006. Virginia worked for General Motors for 33 years, she retired in 1988. She sold Tupperware for many years. Virginia enjoyed crafting of all kinds, doing puzzles and playing bingo. She loved to travel, spending much time traveling throughout the United States. She made it to every state except Alaska. Virginia was proud to have walked the Mackinaw Bridge for many years.
Virginia Welch is survived by her 2 children, James (Shirley) Welch and Cathy Loranger; 4 grandchildren, John (Donna) Harris, Derek (Missy) Welch, Krystal Detweiler and Jeff (Tamie) Harris; 7 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Leonard (Doris) Sparks, Richard Sparks and Harry (Margie) Sparks; special caretaker, Jim Petty; and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Christine Sparks; husband, James Welch; 8 siblings, Joseph Jr, Dorellen, Grace Ann, Thomas, Carolyn, Mary, Robert and June.
