VANITVELT, David “Hugh” – Of Grand Blanc, age 89, died Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Father Leronio Vodivodi officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to Holy Family Statue Fund.
Visitation 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Swartz funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Vanitvelt will be at the church from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the Mass.
Hugh was born in Flint, Michigan on February 4, 1933, the son of the late Edward and Geraldine (O’Hare) Vanitvelt.
On June 28, 1958 he married Dolores Grantner in Flint.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years.
Hugh was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed softball, basketball, serving as a referee for basketball and loved U of M football.
He also loved traveling, working in his yard, going up north to Houghton Lake, building things, doing projects and various outdoor activities.
Mr. Vanitvelt retired from Standard Register Company.
Surviving are wife, Dolores;
children, Karen and husband John Mora,
Suzanne Walker,
Greg and wife Jennifer Vanitvelt,
Dave and wife Marcie Vanitvelt;
grandchildren, Jonathan and wife Erin Mora, Lauren and husband Dan Smolilo, Jacob and wife Kelsey Vanitvelt, Hallie, Sydney, Abbie and Kelsie Vanitvelt, Matthew and Kristin Walker;
great-grandchildren, Molly and Lily Mora;
sister, Kathryn “Kay” Baadte;
brother, Don and wife Kathy Vanitvelt;
many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Logsdon.
