J.C. was born in Bell City, MO on January 9, 1938, son of the late Woodrow and Lillian (Davis) Proffer. On December 29, 1956, he married Elizabeth MaryAnn Kovacs and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2002. J.C. found solace and joy in the simplicity of nature, whether it was the thrill of the hunt, particularly for moose and deer, or the peaceful moments spent fishing for salmon. His love for the outdoors extended to camping adventures, with a special fondness for the tranquility of a trout pond. Gladwin, MI, held a special place in J.C.'s heart, as it was the backdrop for countless gatherings filled with laughter, love, and shared experiences. His home was a sanctuary where family and friends gathered, creating a haven of warmth and hospitality.
Family meant the world to J.C., and he reveled in every opportunity to spend quality time with his loved ones. Family trips were a source of immense joy for him, from the rugged beauty of Alaska to the tropical paradise of Hawaii, and the vast landscapes of Canada. J.C. also crisscrossed the United States, leaving a trail of wonderful memories from coast to coast. Missouri, in particular, held a special place in his heart, and he often found himself drawn to its beauty. J.C. will be remembered for his zest for life, his love of nature, and the countless moments of camaraderie shared around the campfire. He leaves behind a legacy of adventure, laughter, and love that will forever echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. In honoring J.C.'s memory, let us find solace in the beauty of the natural world he so deeply cherished and the bonds of love and friendship that will endure in our hearts. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the serene landscapes he held dear.
J.C. is survived by 4 children, Johnnie Proffer, Dennis (Donna) Proffer, Tony (Karen) Proffer and Todd Proffer; 7 grandchildren, Brandon, Rachal, Jason, Brooke, Dennis, Jesika and Anthony; 9 great-grandchildren, Trey, Kaiden, Kaileb, Jaydyn, Khalon, Nakoa, Brielle, Avery and Nova; sister, Barbara Proffer; sister-in-law, Linda Proffer; many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and good friends.
