ROBERTS, Phyllis Joanne (Hocken) – of Davison, MI age, 96, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 12 PM Friday, January 3, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Chaplain Hank Messing and Rev. Carol Johns co-officiating. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-12 PM Friday, January 3, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Methodist Children’s Home Society of Michigan, in Phyllis’s memory.
Phyllis was born in Flint, MI on October 19, 1928, daughter of the late Harry and Amelia (Phillips) Hocken. She was a graduate of Flint Technical High School Class of 1947. On July 9, 1949, she married the love of her life, Joseph William Roberts, who preceded her in death on May 14, 2014. Together, they shared a beautiful life, raising a family and creating memories that will forever be cherished. Phyllis was a dedicated employee at Buick Engineering for 10 years, but her true passions lay in her faith and family. A lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Flint, MI, Phyllis devoted countless hours to her church community. She sang in the Chancel Choir, directed both the Youth Choir and the Handbell Choir, and was an active member of United Methodist Women. She also found great joy in making pasties at the church, a tradition that brought people together and warmed many hearts. A woman of deep love and loyalty, Phyllis treasured her time with family. Every Tuesday, she would share a special outing with her sister, Winnie, making memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew them. Phyllis was also a dedicated fan of her family's hockey games, always cheering them on with enthusiasm and pride. In addition to her love for her family, Phyllis had a deep affection for travel, particularly to Cornwall, England, where she visited relatives and immersed herself in the beauty and history of the region. These travels were a reflection of her adventurous spirit and her desire to connect with loved ones across the globe.
Phyllis is survived by 2 children, Susan (Loren) Sohn and Thomas (Melissa) Roberts; 9 grandchildren, Raya (Patrick Bowles) Sohn, Masha (Jan Rigterink) Sohn, Dasha (Scott) Dearing, Mafe Sohn, Abby Sohn, Vicky Sohn, Ian (Jessica) Roberts, Luc Roberts and Amelia Roberts; 4 great-grandchildren, Beckett Bowles, Sasha Dearing, Darcy Dearing and Baby Roberts; brother, Robert (Eileen) Hocken; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Amelia Hocken; husband, Joseph William Roberts and sister, Winifred (Bruce) Howe.
