Charles F. “John” Pratt, 87, a lifetime Lapeer area resident died Thursday March 26, 2015.
John was born January 15, 1928 in Almont to parents Charles and Mary Jane (Shaw) Pratt. He graduated from Lapeer High School, class of 1945. John served his country during WWII as a member of the US Maritime Service and also served his country during the Korean War in the US Army. He married Doris Dunham on January 4, 1949 in Angola, Indiana. John had several careers during his lifetime: he retired from General Motors in 1987 after 34 years of service, he owned and operated Western Auto Store in Imlay City for thirteen years, he owned and operated Real Estate One in Lapeer for many years (& was realtor of the year two times), he was the Attica Postmaster for several years and drove bus for Lapeer Community Schools. John was an active member at Hunters Creek Community Church as well as the Imlay VFW and the Imlay Lions Club.
John is survived by his wife, Doris Pratt; eight children: Chuck (Cyndi) Pratt of Lapeer, Julie (Randy) Johnson of Attica, Lorie (Steve) Butler of Clifford, Lisa (Tony) O’Brien of Imlay City, Colleen (Dean) Grossbauer of Silverwood, Aaron (Irma) Pratt of Imlay City, Anthony (Maria) Pratt of Birmingham and Joy (Ken) Einheuser of Lapeer; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; his great grandson, Charles Pratt; four sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be held from 1-4/6-8 PM Sunday March 29, 2015 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. John’s funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Monday, March 30, 2015 at Hunters Creek Community Church, Lapeer, Rev. James Lorch officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Hunters Creek Cemetery. Military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are encouraged to the Hunters Creek Community Church Building Fund.
