Delores Kay (Smith) Skinner

Born: 5/9/1948
Died: 5/13/2025
Age: 77
Community: Otisville, MI

Delores Kay (Smith) Skinner passed away surrounded by family on May 13, 2025 at the age of 77. She was born on Mothers Day May 9, 1948 to Carl and Shirley (Ruppert) Smith in Flint, MI. She graduated from Kearsley High School in 1966. Delores married Alan (Mike) Skinner on April 24, 1971, and they raised two daughters and were blessed with three grandchildren.

Generous, strong-willed, and selfless; she will always be a source of strength and love for her family and friends. Delores made the lives of those around her happier through hand-stitched cards, bad jokes shared at Cribbage, and endless, unwavering encouragement. Delores always spoke her mind and stood up for what she believed in. If you needed a helpful hand, a listening ear, or a shoulder to lean on you couldn’t find a better or more willing person to give it.

Though she had a penchant for keeping a thoroughly clean house, what stood out the most was how she filled it with love. From the sought after molasses cookies she baked in the kitchen to the warm bed and dinner always available to out of town guests she cared for each person who entered her home.

Delores enjoyed going on bike rides around her homes in Davison and Caseville. She loved to travel, with some of her favorite destinations being New York City and The Valley of Fire in Nevada. She played Wii games with her grandkids, often beating them; and she liked to play marbles, solitaire, and Rummikub with her friends and family. Delores especially loved teaching her cat to do tricks and watching the amazed faces of those she knew when he gave them a high-five.

Delores will be remembered and loved by her husband, Mike; daughters, Erica (Jeffrey) Hunt and Kelly Skinner; grandchildren, Alex Hunt, Lydia Hunt, and Audrey Bruner; sister, Sharon (Mervyn) McCarroll; brother, Clark (Karen) Smith; several nieces and nephews; cousins; beloved uncle, Lester Loyer; numerous dear friends, including Chris Apel and Charlotte Chimento; and her dearly loved cat, Charlie.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; and in-laws, Francis Skinner and Esther (Erbisch) Schafer.

In keeping with Delores’ wishes, cremation has been arranged by Mumford Hudson Funeral Home and there will be no public memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to American Humane Society for reuniting military dogs with former handlers.
