BENSON, Alton Vernon – of Davison, MI, age 96, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Chip Collins officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, in Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Wednesday, February 16, 2022 and 11 AM-12 PM Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church, in Al’s memory.
Al was born in New Market, Alabama on December 28, 1925, son of the late William and Ollie (Maddox) Benson. He married Nanna Kilburn on May 24, 1971 in Flint, MI. Al proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He retired from General Motors in 1980 after 21 years of service. Al was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and dedicated his time serving the Lord. He enjoyed reading his Bible, spending time with his church family, watching basketball and baseball, painting, yardwork, carpentry and more than anything, he loved spending time with his family and especially singing songs with his “Honey”. Al was an impeccable dresser and took pride in his cars, his home and his family. He was extremely disciplined and always tried to stay physically fit and maintain a healthy body.
Al is survived by his wife, Nanna Benson; 4 children, Marcus Benson, Nedra Benson, Vernon (Brooke) Benson and Tina (Montez) Tucker; 9 grandchildren, Marcus Benson, Eric (Sabra) Benson, Chad Benson, Amanda (Jacob) Walling, Arica Benson, Allysen Benson, Jaylin Tucker, Brady Benson and Montez Tucker II; 11 great-grandchildren, Ethan Benson, Aiden Benson, Landon Benson, Corbin Benson, Kaysleigh Benson, River Benson, Francis Benson, Ellinore Benson, Owen Benson, Nolan Benson, Dierks Walling and number 12 on the way; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ollie Benson; 5 siblings, Annie Mae (Robert) Simons, Roy (Euleua Mae) Benson, Henrietta (Ralph) Pruett, Mildred (Ralph) Jones and Dorothy (Larry) Crayton and granddaughter, Erin Benson.
