NORTHPORT – Charles “Chuck” F. Plachetzki, 89, of Northport, was called to his Heavenly Father on October 6, 2010, at Tendercare of Leelanau at Suttons Bay.
He was born in Detroit on Jan. 15, 1921, the son of Otto and Frieda Plachetzki. He attended Cass Technical High School and Lawrence Tech in Detroit.
Chuck married Pauline Rupnow at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Detroit on June 14, 1944. He served honorably in World War II in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 and was a navigator on a B-29 in the Marianna Islands from 1945 to 1946. Chuck rose to the rank of captain and was a member of the 504th Bomb Group, 313th Wing.
Following the war, Chuck worked for forty years for the City of Detroit. He was a member of the IBEW, Local 17.
After retirement in 1979, Chuck and Pauline moved to Northport, Michigan, where he was a member of the Northport Lions Club. He was a member of Trinity Church of the United Church of Christ where he sang in the choir. The last five years of Chuck’s life were spent at Tendercare of Leelanau.
Chuck was a gentle and kind man who loved his family very much. His great big smile will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pauline, his daughter Susan (Donald) Bogue of Northport, and his sons Charles (Sally) of Suttons Bay and William of Frankfort. He is also survived by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a brother, Werner, of Belleville, Michigan, and a sister, Violet Pellerito of Woodhaven, Michigan.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a brother, Walter.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Church of the United Church of Christ in Northport at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 23. The Rev. Karen Schulte will officiate.
