O’HARA, Edward J. – Of Swartz Creek, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00am on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 at St. Mary's Queen of Angels, 4413 South Morrish Road, Swartz Creek, Father Louis Ekka officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00pm-8:00pm on Sunday, December 18th and 2:00pm-8:00pm, with a Rosary prayed at 7:00pm, on Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Visitation also 10:00am Tuesday at church until the time of the Mass.

Edward was born in Windsor, Ontario on December 6, 1931, the son of the late Martin and Bridgetta (Callaghen) O’Hara. He became a U.S. citizen on November 10, 1954. Edward was drafted to the Army from 1952-1954 and then went into the Army Reserves from 1954-1960. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1960. On October 5, 1957, he married the love of his life, Charlene Bunker at St. Matthews Catholic Church and they were married for 64 years and she preceded him in death in 2021. Edward worked for the Genesee County Road Commission for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Queen of Angels.

Edward was a dedicated poppy who loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events throughout the years. Specifically, watching grandson, Kyle, play hockey, Carson playing baseball, football and basketball, and Alivia’s cheerleading and basketball games. Edward also loved watching football, especially the Michigan Wolverines and going to the casino. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Edward was a loving husband, father and poppy and he will be dearly missed.

Surviving are sons, Patrick and Thomas O’Hara:

daughter, Colleen (Ron) Latimer;

grandchildren, Danette, Heather, Brian and Kyle;

great-grandchildren, Carson and Alivia;

and many nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene O’Hara; son, Charles O’Hara; brother, Jack O’Hara; and sisters, Margaret Urchyk and Helen O’Hara.

The family extends a big heartfelt thank you to all of the doctors and nurses on the Surgical ICU floor at Ascension Genesys that took compassionate and thoughtful care of our Daddy-O.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
