GLASS, Larry W. passed away on March 7th, 2024. He was born in Flint, Michigan on April 27, 1960 and grew up in Grand Blanc, MI. He attended Reid Elementary and McGrath Junior High and graduated from Grand Blanc High School. Fulfilling his passion of learning he continued his education attending General Motors Institute (Kettering University) and obtained his MBA from The University of Michigan – Flint.
Larry never met a stranger and made friends easily. He was an optimistic and compassionate man that sought out the good in everyone he met. He loved to travel and experience all the beauty and experience’s the world had to offer. His friendships were lifelong, and he was someone you could always count on. Throughout his life, his compassion and desire to help people never wavered. He was a kind loving man with a photographic memory and wicked sense of humor. He was the catalysts of many lifelong friendships, adventures and memories for countless individuals.
He grew up attending the First Baptist Church of Grand Blanc and after college joined the First Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon. He was active on missionary projects in Babahoyo, Ecuador with the Christian Medical Society. He was also an active member of the benevolence board.
Larry was an accomplished man serving on many civic boards and GMI Alumni chapters. Starting his career as a GMI Cooperative Student, Larry retired from General Motors after a 30-year career as a Product Program and Cost Engineer. He loved to travel and see the world as well as being an accomplished chef. If you knew Larry, you never went hungry!
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Olive (Bacon) Glass and his best friend and partner Mr. Wilson Smith and their dog Duke. He is survived by his sister Ann Haney (Flint), Brother Charles Glass (Toledo), Niece Jennifer (Dave) Decator (Novi) and Nephews Aaron and Devin Decator (Farmington).
Memorial service will be held at 3pm Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, MI.
Visitation 2:00-8:00 pm Wednesday and 2pm Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Macomb County Humane Society or Affirmations LGBTQ Community Center, Ferndale, MI.
