ECKENROD, Lewis Lloyd- Age 83, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021, following complications resulting from an automobile accident.
He was born September 4, 1937 in Flint, Michigan.
He attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Grade School and went on to Mandeville High School in Flint, Michigan. He played football in 1951 on the Mandeville High School team, where they were inducted into the Hall of Fame. He made many life-long friends there.
Lewis graduated in 1955. He then married and had three children. He worked for Shell Gas Station, Lady Davidson Shoe Store and went on to begin his career working for General Motors. He began at the Swartz Creek Otterburn Plant and from there went on to become an Inspector at the Pontiac SPO Parts Plant, which he retired from.
Lewis worked for GM for an impressive 45.3 years! He enjoyed hunting, guns, gardening, dancing, football and going out to eat to try new foods and restaurants.
He loved his cars and never failed to take care of his and keep them looking good! He also enjoyed western shows, especially John Wayne movies. He was very opinionated on politics and the ever-changing world we lived in.
He could be loud, gruff, and stubborn, but to those who loved him, he had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. He was very generous and loved his family.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Mary (Bauer) Eckenrod; sister, Colleen (Eckenrod) Pawli and her husband, Vince Pawli; ex-wife, Janet (Cairnduff) Eckenrod; daughter, Lynn Marie Eckenrod; son, James Lewis Eckenrod and his life-long partner, Constance (Connie) Selleck.
He leaves his daughter, Patricia Ann (Eckenrod) Kilburn and her husband Michael, his granddaughter, McKayla Lynn (Kilburn) Prins and her husband, Cole; his other granddaughter, Brandy Lynn (Kilburn) Byrd and her husband, Rob and their two children, his great-grandchildren, Brayden and Kellan and many dear friends.
He was a wonderful Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa and friend!
We will keep him in our hearts and miss him every day until we see him again in Heaven.
Special thanks to all the skilled, caring, and compassionate staff at Hurley Hospital on the 5th floor East, neuro-trauma ICU.
Family and friends are invited to attend. The visitation is from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Saturday, September 18, 2021, Pastor Sarah LaRose-Nettell officiating, and the service will take place at 1 p.m. followed by a graveside ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery.
