SLINGLEND, Dale Stephen – of Flint, MI, age 84, passed away Monday, August 17, 2020. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 2 PM Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Richfield United Methodist Church, 10090 East Coldwater Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Shelly Ann Long officiating. Inurnment, with Military Honors, immediately following the service in Richfield Union Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 1-2 PM Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Richfield United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richfield United Methodist Church or the U.S.O. (United Service Organizations), in Dale’s memory.
Dale was born in Flint, MI on November 20, 1935, son of the late Benjamin and Thelma (Thompson) Slinglend. He was a graduate of Kearsley High School Class of 1954 and was on the class reunion committee. Dale proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959. He married Sandra Strayer on November 14, 1959. Dale retired from Chevrolet Plant Protection “Down in the Hole” in 1992 after 30 years of service. He then retired from Brookwood Golf Course in 2004. Dale was a member of the Sub Vets, life-time member of the NRA and trustee member of Richfield United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golfing.
Dale is survived by his wife, Sandra Slinglend; 2 children, Jeffery Slinglend and Susan (Roger) Bloomfield; 2 granddaughters, Alicia (Adam) Florizone and Jenny Bloomfield; 3 brothers, Lloyd (Sharon) Slinglend, Gary (Pam) Slinglend and Norman (Ann) Slinglend; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Thelma Slinglend; sister, Patricia Thrush.
The family would like to extend a very sincere thank you to Dale’s church family, including Shelly and Steve Long, Dale’s special neighbor, Wendell Zoleman, the Sam’s Club Camping Group and the group in the parts department at Friendly’s Auto Group for their kindness and friendship.
