HECKEL, Robert “Bob” - Of Clio, age 89, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at McLaren-Flint.
A family conducted funeral service will be held 11am Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or The Salvation Army.
Visitation 5-8pm Saturday and 11am-2pm and 5-8pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Robert was born in Houghton, Michigan on February 17, 1928, the son of the late E. Arthur and Leota (London) Heckel and was a resident of the Flint area since 1949. On September 28, 1946, he married Dorothy Dugdale. Robert was employed with General Motors for 44 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of UAW Local #659.
Surviving are wife, Dorothy;
children, Sharon Straughmatt, Teresa Dodge, Lucille Orso, Douglas and Carol McKee;
9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren;
sisters, Kathleen (Bob) Johnson and Karen Hempton;
and brother, Bruce Daniel Heckel.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Barbara Saxton and son, Robert David, sister, Lucille Williamson and brothers, Howard, William and Arthur Donald.
