Dan (Danny) C. Monroe, age 76 of Swartz Creek, Michigan Died December 27th, 2025.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4 from 1-8pm with scripture service at 7pm at Sharp Funeral Homes- Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. On Monday, January 5, visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Queen of Angels, 4413 Morrish Road, Swartz Creek at 9am until the funeral mass at 10am.
Dan was born December 21, 1949, in Flint to Raymond Monroe and Peggy Jerome. He was born and raised in Flint and made his home in Swartz Creek for the past 44 years. He attended Northwestern High School and graduated in 1968.
Dan made serving the community through law enforcement his career and served for several departments including Flint Township Police Department, Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, and the Montrose Township Police Department. He Joined the Michigan State Police where he proudly served the people of Michigan for 25 years mostly of which were at the Flint Post. During his time with the State Police, he was instrumental in several specialized units including the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team. He was most proud of spearheading the creation of the Michigan State Police Fallen Trooper Memorial in Lansing which memorializes Troopers who were killed in the line of duty.
After retirement from the Michigan State Police, he didn’t stay retired, as he could never sit still. He continued working for Clayton and Gaines Township Police Departments, the Office of the Inspector General, Home Depot, and most recently, Premier Security. He was incredibly passionate for muscle cars and the 1950s and 60s and enjoyed attending car events with his 1969 GTO, which he purchased new at 18 years old. Dan loved his country and was very patriotic. He could fix anything and everything on a vehicle or in a home. His “can-do” attitude was evident in everything he did. Above all, Dan put himself above others, always offering a helping hand to friends, family, and even strangers, often pausing his own projects to go and help anyone in need.
Dan would always greet people with a smile and crack a joke. His hugs could heal. He was silly and goofy, and loved deeply. There is nothing Dan loved more than his family. He was the epitome of a family man and patriarch to his siblings.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Kay Monroe, his adoring children, Jaime (Dave) Winstead, Ken (Molly) Monroe, Sarah (Matt) Thomas, and his loving grandchildren, Brooke Winstead, Madison Winstead, David Winstead, and Landon Thomas. Also surviving are his siblings Debbie (Mike) Rice, Diane (Richard) Szabad, Denae (John) Higham, Dawn (Dennis) Smith, Darrell Monroe, Karen Hartel, and Sherry (Bob) Peterson along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by his most loyal companion, his dog, Reagan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Jerome, his father, Ray Monroe, his stepmother Peggy Monroe, his father-in-law Ken Scheitler, and his mother-in-law, Mary Scheitler.
Dan was a bright light in the world and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to one of Dan’s favorite charitable organizations, Tunnel to Towers.
