Community: Flint, MI

Jimmie Darrell McIntosh, AKA Jim, J.D. and Mac, resident of Flint Michigan, passed away on Wednesday August 3, 2022.

Jimmie was born on St. Patrick's Day, 1944, in Gladwin Michigan to Ray and Beryl (Dunning) McIntosh. Jim was third youngest out of 18 siblings. Jim was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and deer hunting; Especially the yearly ritual with his family at deer camp. He enjoyed the company of his animals immensely, and spent much of his retirement free time, watching TV with "babies." He was always knee deep in some project that had to get done, Jim never stayed idle very long. In his younger years he played baseball on the Flint City leagues, held the "lane championship" in bowling, at Colonial Lanes in Flushing Michigan for 35 years, with a perfect game of 300 consecutively, and he also played golf leisurely.

At age 17 years old, Jim would enlist in the United States Army, Green Beret Special Forces Unit and successfully complete 2 tours of duty from 1962-1965, in Vietnam. He would be discharged with full honors. He would then continue his passion for military life, and re-enlist in the Army National Guard for the next 21 years and receive full retirement. After coming home from Vietnam, Jim found employment with Ford motors in Detroit, then moved to Flint where he started employment with General Motors for the next 35 years, at the Chevrolet Manufacturing plant (down in the hole), which would later be Delphi. Jim was a volunteer firefighter and held the title of Assistant Fire Chief, for 13yrs on Mt. Morris Township fire dept no. 2. During his time on the fire department, he was also a certified EMT and assisted in ambulatory missions. Jim was certified to use the "Jaws of Life" equipment. Jim was a real "Hero", and went out of his way to protect and save the lives of the people he was serving. Also, Jim was the Mt. Morris Township Constable for 8 years, and Genesee County Coordinator of Mount Morris Township, for 3 years. After his retirement from the military and General Motors, Jim would find his next and final love for employment in the trucking industry. Jim would spend the next 23 years being a truck driver, and enjoyed it to the fullest. Jim was also a jack of many trades, and completed jobs in roofing, backhoe excavation, house and barn building. Jim was one of the hardest working men most people would ever meet and was well known for his work dedication.

Jim was a loving father, a dedicated husband and a superb and top-notch supporter of his family. He would always see to it that his family never went without the things that they needed. He was quick to lend a helping hand to the ones that he cared for. There was never a mountain he thought was too high to climb. He viewed every obstacle in life as a challenge and not a potential defeat. He always forged straight ahead, full force, with a mindset of victory.

There's not one person that can fill the shoes of Jimmy Darrell McIntosh. He was a great man, and his memory will live on as legend. He was a true Hero.

Jimmie is survived by his children, Kelly McIntosh-Butler, Daniel Butler, Jimmie Ray McIntosh and granddaughter Johnna Rae Smith, his cherished animals, cat Rosey, dogs Bonnie, Sophie, Tootie, Cookie and Bubba. His beloved sisters Carol and Sue, his brother Tom and over 400 cousins, nieces and nephews combined.

Jimmie is preceded in death by his beloved wife DeAnna Marie (Brant) McIntosh; his parents Raymond and Beryl; his sisters Nova Jean, Debbie, Leola, Yvonne, Elsie, Marsha and Ella; and brothers, Lyle, Vern, Herb, Leonard and Jerry.
