Mark Winston Knerr, 83, of Whitehouse, OH, died December 17, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee, OH. He was born June 9, 1927 in Van Wert Co. to Otto and Clara (White) Knerr. Mark served in the U.S. Army Air Corp 1945-46. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Bowling Green State University and his Masters Degree from University of Toledo.
Mark was a dedicated educator. He taught and coached four years at Troy-Luckey High School in Lucky, OH. He later found the Anthony Wayne Schools in Whitehouse, OH where he served for twenty eight years. At various times during that period, he filled the positions teacher, coach, counselor, High School Principal, district Director of Instruction, and ended his career as Assistant Superintendent.
He was a member of the Whitehouse American Legion Post #384, Longtime member Rotary Club of Waterville, and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Convoy, OH.
Mark received much recognition and awards including, Rotary International “Paul Harris Fellow”, The Anthony Wayne Board of Education named the High School Media Center after him and the Anthony Wayne Alumni Association elected him to the Anthony Wayne Hall of Fame. He was also recognized by the Senate of the Ohio Legislature for his contribution to education in the State of Ohio.
Since retiring, Mark has written two children’s stories for publication, Barn Music and Pig with a Wig. Mark is survived by brothers, Paul (Lois) of Ft Wayne, IN and Don (Joan) of Payne, OH, a sister-in-law, Janice Knerr of Mansfield, OH, and nine nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call Monday, December 20, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. at Peinert Funeral Home 6603 Providence St. Whitehouse, OH. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Steve Bauerle officiating.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Rotary Club of Waterville or the Anthony Wayne Education Foundation.
