Robert A. Downer age 73 of Durand, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Pleasant View in Owosso. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
Robert Allan Downer was born November 7, 1948 in Flint, a son of Ernest and Sarah (Williams) Downer. After graduating from Durand High School he served in the United States Navy. On January 17, 1970 Robert married Elizabeth Baker. He was a member of the Durand AMVETS. He was a past post and state commander and National Saddest. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, model cars and boats, puzzles and playing BINGO. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for General Motors for 32 years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Downer,; children, Donna (Robert) Linnartz, Robert J. Downer, and Michael (Stacy) Downer; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; siblings, Edward (Beverley) Downer, Jack (Alyce) Downer, William (Linda) Downer and David (Fay) Downer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Sarah Downer; granddaughter, Trinity Downer, and brother, Wayne Downer.
