Billie was born on February 18, 1931 in Catron, Missouri to Charles H. Lewis Sr. and Mable Lucille (Woolsey) Lewis. The family moved to Flint in 1937. Billie grew up here and graduated from Flint Technical High School in 1950. On December 29, 1951 she married the love of her life, Roy L. Greenbury. They were blessed with two children: Brenda Gayle born in 1953 and Michael Charles born in 1959. Roy Greenbury passed away in 1970. Billie married a former schoolmate, Keith Lockwood, in 1976. Billie, known to most as Beauton, never missed an opportunity to vote. She loved to read and loved to travel. She was also an avid shopper, and frequently admitted an attraction to the “cha-ching” sound heard at casinos in Michigan and other states. She treasured the time she spent as a Girl Scout leader. But her favorite activity, by far, was spending time with her family and friends.
She was a valued employee at a number of jobs in her long working life, including Citizens Bank, Hillside Psychiatric Clinic and, of course, “the store” – Kohl’s on Linden Road.
Memories of Billie’s love, generosity and spirit will be treasured by her daughter Brenda (Kevin J.) Wilson and her son Michael (Dinah) Greenbury.
She was blessed with four grandchildren: Sarah (Adam) Howell, Jeffery (Jennifer) Sanders, Ashley (Caleb) Duffield and Ryan (Kayla) Greenbury.
Billie had even more special stars in her sky – her eight great-grandchildren: Kira Sanders, Brenna Howell, Karina Sanders, Grant Howell, Kaden Sanders, Keagan Sanders, Isabella Greenbury and Victoria Greenbury.
She also delighted in spoiling four “furry grandchildren” – Yukie, Buddy, Kenai and Hunter.
There were plenty of special people waiting to greet her in heaven, starting with her husband Roy. The welcoming party also included Sneedy Boy and Lucy, Poss and Juanita, her brother Harold and his daughter Cheryl, Verna and Fred, Richard Sanders, Grandma Becky and her friend Clarice. Billie never claimed to be perfect, but there was nothing she wouldn’t do to try to help her family and friends. She led a long life that was full of love given and love received.
Special thanks to Drs DiGi and Ponce and their staff, and to everyone at Genesys Health Park who looked after her in her final days and Pastor Jonathan Earnhart.
