Jeffery E. Faris

Died: 7/23/2023
Age: 62
Community: Swartz Creek, MI

Jeffery E. Faris of Swartz Creek, MI, aged 62, died at his home Sunday, July 23, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. A beloved father, husband, and friend; Jeff’s generosity and kindness will never be forgotten.
Jeffery was born in Flint, Michigan on May 4, 1961, the youngest son of Joseph and Lucille Faris. With four older siblings, he fondly recalled a home bustling with friends and a surprisingly diverse assortment of pets. Jeff attended Powers Catholic High School and later the University of Michigan where he graduated with a degree in computer science. During college, he met the love of his life, Sue, on a ski trip to Vermont. She didn't understand her physics homework and he really didn’t like skiing all that much, a perfectly imperfect match. Together they had three… four…no, five children. Jeff took on the role of Dad with ease, transitioning as needed to a chauffeur, agonizingly thorough tutor, wrestling partner (5 against 1), late-night children’s book reader, wielder of the wifi, and chef with classics such as “dad’s spaghetti.”
During college, Jeff worked at the Flint Engine Plant testing engine durability. Upon graduation from U of M, he worked as a computer programmer originally at EDS and later at Hewlett Packard. He transitioned to Data Base Administrator, not because he loved it, but because he knew it was an in-demand career, so he would always be able to provide for his family. Taking care of his family was always Jeff’s main priority, and he did it well. After leaving Hewlett Packard, Jeff worked for contract firms, Ciber and Mind Tech, until early onset dementia prevented him from continuing.
Jeff’s generosity grew with him, continually going above and beyond for others. Not only did he provide stereo equipment, computers, and tech support for his own family and friends, but he also ensured that his kids’ friends and their schools had working computers as well. He was always thinking about others. Jeff was also an avid reader and could always be found with a book close by. He had a deep love for music and was an unparalleled collector of stereo equipment. He always said, "You can hear the difference” and his kids couldn’t agree more. In his spare time, he loved to listen to WKAR public radio and watch historical documentaries, nature biopics, and college football (Go Blue!). Most of all, he loved spending time with his family - furry and human. He is dearly loved, and he will be missed.
The family would like to give a tremendous and heartfelt thanks to the exceptional nurses, aids, and therapists at The Medical Team, who provided such a supportive, compassionate, and peaceful environment during his transition from this life to the next. They are beyond wonderful.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Sue, their five children: Nathan (Justine Pearl), Maria, Megan, Isaac, and Scott, his sister, Pam Fars (John Cherry), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Joseph and Lucille Faris, and his siblings, Joe Faris, Richard Rudd, and Lynne Melenbrink.
