Clyde “Bud” Chard was born March 20, 1943 in Ishpeming, MI. He was the son of Clyde Hamilton Chard and Mary Alexine Wilson and brother to Robert John Chard.

In his youth, Bud enjoyed spending his time at his grandfather's business, the "General Store" and Mobil Gas Station, as well as the cottage his grandfather built at Shelter Bay. His favorite childhood memories included fishing Lake Superior with his grandfather, A.P. Wilson, drinking Orange Crush lakeside, spending long days in the sun playing baseball and cheering on his mother as the lone female race car driver at the local track.
Bud graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1961, subsequently enrolling at Northern Michigan University, where he earned his teaching license in social studies, science and English. In 1966, he began his first teaching position at St. Michael’s School in Maple Grove, MI and later moved to Flint Northwestern Community High School in 1969 where he worked as a guidance counselor. In that role, he firmly established himself in what would become a rewarding career devoted to helping teens and their families. In 1972, Bud joined the Genesee Area Skill Center where he would stay for 20 years. He finished his rewarding career in education at Flint Central High School, where he spent thirteen years as a guidance counselor, with one of his greatest achievements being a clothing cooperative to help children and families in need throughout the greater Flint area. Mr. Chard celebrated a career of service to students and their families with his retirement from public education in 2005.

Bud was known for his love of life, never missing an opportunity to celebrate an accomplishment or milestone with friends and family. His hobbies included fishing, playing baseball, swimming, cycling, landscaping, photography, golfing, cooking and worldwide travel. In his later years, he treasured his time with his partner of 14 years, Betty Hodgeson, as they explored various countries and spent cherished time together.
Bud loved his family and friends fiercely. He lived with fervor and Sisu, a way of life also recognized by his daughters, that is characterized by resilience, tenacity and determination. His legacy will be a vibrant and spirited storybook, filled with the tales of his ancestors, children, and friendships, as well as memories spanning his decades of travel around the globe.

Clyde “Bud” Chard is survived by his two daughters, Kristen Chard Bratschi of Flushing, MI, Erica Chard and Michael Julio (son in law) of Tucson, AZ, his brother Robert John Chard of Marquette, MI and his partner Elizabeth Rose Hodgeson of Swartz Creek, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
