Lucy J. Walter, age 78, of Fort Gratiot died May 5, 2018 at Regency on the Lake after a short illness. She was born September 4, 1939 in Goodrich, Michigan to Kenneth and Reva Kernen. Lucy lived in the Blue Water area for just over 50 years. She married Wayne Walter on February 15, 1957 in Genesee County. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2004. She worked at the Wadhams Laundromat for 34 years. She enjoyed going to the beach and going on adventures with her friend, Gwen. Mostly Lucy loved the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her five children, Karen (Edward) Robinson, Terri Strauchman, Wayne L. (Amanda) Walter II, Jennifer (Bill) Shanahan, and James (Corinne) Walter, 7 grandchildren, Michael, Becky, Courtney, Kelleigh, Jacob, Sarah, and Ryleigh, 9 great-grandchildren, Simon, Kayleigh, Angel, Michael, Kaden, Nevaeh, Cole, Wyatt, and Tara. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret. Lucy was also preceded in death by her son, Danny Walter, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
A funeral service will take place at 11 AM Thursday at the Smith Family Funeral Home – North, 1525 Hancock Street. A graveside committal service will follow in Ruby Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Thursday beginning at 9 AM. Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Area Humane Society. www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.com.
