POTTS, James “Jim” – of Fenton, age 88, died Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Ascension Genesys in Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be held 11AM, Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Fenton, 860 North Leroy Street, Fenton. Pastor James Bell officiating. Burial to follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery. A funeral luncheon will follow the committal service at 3:30PM at the church. Family will receive visitors at church on Tuesday from 4PM until 8PM and on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Fenton.

Jim was born on March 21, 1931 in Belfast, Ireland to the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Smyth) Potts. He married Violet McBride on June 12, 1954 in Belfast, Ireland they immigrated to the United States in 1955 and became naturalized citizens in 2006. Jim proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1962. He retired from Buick in 1996 with 38 years seniority and was a member of UAW Local #599. Jim was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Fenton. He was on the Board of Directors for Shiawassee Shores Retirement Community in Linden. Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, and riding motorcycles. He loved touring Michigan and visiting all of the beautiful lighthouses. Jim was very involved with the church, providing decades of leadership for Sunday School and church events. He also was the director of choir and music program for many years, leading the annual Christmas Cantata. Jim also enjoyed providing Senior Ministries for residents at Argentine Rest Home, once a month for over 40 years. He was a faithful servant of God, he always put family and others first.

Surviving are: Wife of 64 years, Violet Potts; Children: Heather (John) Mikulenas of Sturgis, Michigan and Dave (Donita) Potts of Lennon, Michigan; Grandchildren: Travis (Andrea) Mikulenas, Mackenzie (Mark) Satkoski, Tyler Mikulenas, Taylor (Ben) Raichel, and Bryce Potts; Great grandchildren: Leighton, Nolan, Maisie, Sammy, and Emery.
