Joseph "Joe" Basner, age 79 of Farwell, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at his home. Joe was born the son of Joseph A. and Margaret (Hude) Basner on September 2, 1936 in Gladwin. He was united in marriage to Beatrice Kennedy on April 4, 1959. Joe had served eight years in the Michigan National Guard. He had worked for General Motors for 35 years, retiring as a Mold Setter in 1991. Joe had lived in Burton for 38 years before moving to Farwell in 1991. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Clare and had belonged to UAW Local 659 in Flint. Joe enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Detroit Tigers; he loved to travel and camp.
Joe is survived by his wife Beatrice; daughters Darlene (William Johnson) Basner, Julie (Edward) Miller, Ann (Rick Frase) Cole and Karen (Michael) Webb; his sister Ruthann (Michael) Blizzard; grandchildren Nicole Ember, Ashley Peake, Madeline and Lance Corporal Joey Cole, Michaela and Zachary Webb and Ian Johnson; great grandchildren Michael, Marissa, Aria, Quinton, Morgan and Josslyn; many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents and a brother Richard.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Services will be on Monday at 11 A.M. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Clare with Pastor Andrew Ewald officiating. Burial will take place on Tuesday at 1 P.M. in the Flint Memorial Park in Mt.
