THORP, Barbara Jean – age 85 of Davison, MI passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Masonic Pathways in Alma, MI. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 4PM-8PM and again on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 2PM-4PM & 6PM-8PM. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Hill Funeral Home – 11723 S. Saginaw St. Grand Blanc, MI with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Pastor Todd Frusti officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Barbara was born June 19, 1931 in Flint, MI to the late Marland E. and Neva M. (Rochester) DeGrow. She graduated from Flint Central in 1949. Barbara married LaVerne “Jim” Thorp in Flint and they had celebrated 55 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 3, 2009. She was an only child and she built her own large family with her husband Jim. She worked as a bookkeeper/office manager for Perry Printing Company in Flint. Barbara enjoyed traveling, sewing, bowling, dancing, and music of all types. She was also a fabulous cook. Barbara was a fun loving person who was always up for anything. She was always willing to help anyone. No matter what it was that someone needed she would always say “yes”. Barbara is survived by her children, Michael J. (Ginny) Thorp, Vickie Hammer, David J. (Kim) Thorp, Kenneth L. (Caren) Thorp, and Shari Lee (Geoffrey) DeLoge; 6 grandsons, 5, granddaughters, 3 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way, 2 sister-in-laws, 2 brother-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
