SCHMIDLIN, Betty – Formerly of Flushing, age 83, died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Caretel Inns of Linden. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Father Steve Anderson officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Visitation 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Schmidlin will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of Mass. Mrs. Schmidlin was born in Flint, Michigan on November 4, 1928, the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Peake) Champion. She married Robert W. Schmidlin on September 6, 1952 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Flint. She was a former member of St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing. Surviving are four children, Robert W. II and wife Shannen Schmidlin, Randall R. and wife Denise Schmidlin, Sue Ann and husband Micheal Marshall, Pamela L. and husband Robert Kennedy; grandchildren, Maggie,Zachary and Logan Schmidlin, Jennifer and husband Dan Michelson, Jaclyn and husband Sean O’Connor, Jessica and Jillian Schmidlin, Tiffany and Steven Marshall, Samantha, Sara, Amanda and Megan Kennedy; sister-in-law, Camilla and husband David Rye. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert W. Schmidlin on November 28, 2000 and grandson, Robert III (Bobby).
